FTIR sample preparation: presses & dies
For the production of high quality sample pellets of 32 and 40mm diameter. The patented auto-ejector sleeve allows release of the finished pellet without needing to reset the die in an inverted position at the mid-point of the pressing cycle. After compression of the sample, the load is released. Re-applying a load causes the finished pellet to be pushed clear of the die body. With the Atlas Autotouch press, both steps may be programmed to occur in sequence without intervention by the operator. The Apex Quick Release XRF die makes routine pellet preparation simple and faster than ever before.
The Mini Lab Press is an innovative and low-cost instrument for producing 7 mm KBr pellets. The press is designed as a table-top unit and operates hydraulically. The desired compressive load can be set easily by turning the load screw. Repeatable loading for pressing high-quality KBr pellets is facilitated by an integrated pressure gauge. With a rugged and durable design and a sealed hydraulic unit, this press is intended for regular laboratory use with maintenance-free operation.
Manual hydraulic presses for compressive loads of 15 t oder 25 t are compact laboratory presses and are ideally suited to the preparation of KBr discs or samples for X-ray fluorescence analysis. Polycarbonate safety guards and high ease of handling make these presses extremely user friendly.
Atlas is a power assisted hydraulic press and is available in three version for compressive loads up to 8 t, 15 t and 25 t. The press is optimized for IR and XRF applications and can be used with all Specac accessories for sample preparation.
Atlas Autotouch presses are fully programmable versions of the power assisted Atlas presses. They enable the controlled application and release of the desired load and maintain the load for a programmable period of time. The presses accommodate samples up to 200 mm in diameter. Even complex multi-step "pressing programs" can be implemented easily. The integrated interactive graphic display provides information about program status and current pressure. Programming is straightforward and is achieved with the help of graphic symbols. Up to 6 programs each with a maximum of 10 program segments can be stored.
We provide fully evacuable press dies from hardened stainless steel for producing high-quality pellets ranging from 5 mm up to 40 mm in diameter. These press dies are used in conjunction with hydraulic presses.
These light-weight press dies are made from 440C stainless steel and produce pellets with diameters of 32 mm (325410) and 40 mm (325411). They are particularly well suited for the preparation of solid pellets for X-ray fluorescence spectroscopy. Specifically when many samples are prepared for study, the pyhsical effort required is greatly reduced compared to common tools of the same size.
This evacuable integrated mini press and die system is designed to produce KBr pellets with a diameter of 8.5 mm. The sample is pressed between two screws with polished end surfaces. A hydraulic press is not required. The press die can be either be held in place by a table attachment at one end and tightened with an open-ended spanner at the other end, or fastened with two open-ended spanners at both ends, without table mounting. The press die body serves at the same time as pellet holder and is inserted directly into the spectrometer sample holder with an additional 3“ x 2“ (76.2 mm x 50.8 mm) mounting plate.
The grinding mill is designed to grind and mix samples for use in infrared spectroscopy. The sample is ground into uniform, fine particles in an agate or steel capsule by means of three balls. Vibrations are generated by an electromagnet vibrating at 100 Hz. A timer enables the grinding duration to be set to the desired value up to 20 minutes, the mill can also be set to grind for an indefinite period of time.
