ProSuite from Thermo Fischer Scientific
The Phenom ProSuite was developed to extract information from images made with any Phenom desktop SEM and to automate complicated system control. The Phenom ProSuite software is installed on the Phenom application system. This monitor-mounted PC is the hardware platform for all ProSuite software, leaving the Phenom imaging unit in its original state.
Standardly included are the applications “Automated Image Mapping” and “Remote User Interface”. Further applications (EDX, 3D Roughness Reconstruction, ParticleMetric, PoroMetric, FiberMetric) are available as an option.

Phenom ProSuite is a hardware platform consisting of a monitor mounted PC (Windows 7 (64bit)), 19 inch flat screen and a router. The Phenom ProX and Phenom XL with EDX will be delivered with ProSuite by default. ProSuite was developed to run actual and future SEM applications at a Phenom in a dedicated hardware environment.
Automated Image Mapping
The „Automated Image Mapping“ application enables users to automatically collect multiple images in a regular grid. Focus, brightness and contrast can be followed by the software and the images can be stitched with an overlap.The images are tiled to one large overview which can be stored. The separately stored image stack can be used for further analysis with the other ProSuite applications.
Remote User Interface
“Remote User Interface” enables the user to access the Phenom desktop SEM from a different location via LAN or WLAN.
Visualisation and imaging of the real shape of particles is very important for their evaluation. The automated high-resolution particle size analysis by ParticleMetric visualizes particles with sizes between 100 nm and 100 µm and characterizes their morphology.
The software gatheres up to 1000 particles per minute. The particles are deposited completely characterized in a database. Versatile evaluations are possible: Diameter, largest diameter, sphericity, convexity, surface, extend, chord length, aspect ratio, centre, grey scale,…. The parameters can be visualized in different types of diagrams.
PoroMetric is an analysis tool for pores with diameters between 100 nm and 100 µm. It is possible to gather data like diameter, sphericity and aspect ratio from 1000 pores per minute.
Versatile evaluations are possible: Diameter, sphericity, convexity, extend, chord length, aspect ratio, volume. Only pores on the surface will be detected. By saving the results the software generates a project file which can be edited later on.
FiberMetric is an analysis tool for fibers with diameters between 100 nm and 40 µm and to measure their diameter. The application also measures pores between the fibers to analyze the distribution and orientation of the fibers.
3D Roughness Reconstruction
With the 3D Roughness Reconstruction application, the Phenom desktop SEM is able to generate three-dimensional images and submicrometer roughness measurements. Based on “shape rom shading” technology, 3D imaging helps to interpret sample characteristics and makes images understandable. The application generates (filtered) height maps with adjustable high and low bandpass filters. The user can measure the average roughness (Ra) and the roughness height (Rz) by drawing profiles in any directions of the image.
